Congress passes omnibus public building and reform measures

Drowned Man Charles Desgrove in Milwaukee Pond

A 24 year old man, Charles W. Desgrove, drowned Wednesday night while swimming at Milwaukee pond near the pest house. Albert Edwards rescued the body within minutes. Desgrove, who had recently returned from Cascade Colorado, was a junior at Dakota Wesleyan University. He planned to return to Fairbury Illinois to his parents.

Beef Trust Wins Court Stops Suit

Chicago Judge Landis, famed for the Standing Oil case, halted the government's beef trust prosecution for now. The grand jury indicted National Packing Co as a monopoly. Landis sustained the demurrer, ruling the indictment illegal.

Farmers urged to secure steam threshing bond of 500

The legislature requires steam threshers to post a 500 bond to protect farmers from fires and losses. Without the bond, operators face arrest and a 300 fine.
