Senate Passes Administration Rail Bill Amid Insurgent Gains
The senate enacted the administration railroad bill after twelve weeks of debate with only twelve Democrat votes against it. It expands federal powers, creates a court of commerce, regulates rates, and places telegraph lines under the commerce commission while preserving a wide range of protections for shippers. La Follette pressed for amendments on passes for relatives and railroad property valuation, with mixed outcomes.
