Dacey hanged for murder after Chicago ward feud
In Woops Took Illinois on July 16 James Dacey was hanged at 12 35 after a bitter Ninth ward feud with Alderman Gaynor. Dacey killed Gaynor with a revolver following a May 13 1884 election, was tried here, found sane, and sentenced to death amidst strong public outrage. Also noted are hangings in Donaldsonville and Shreveport for separate killings and a poisoning incident in Mattoon.
