Rumors of foul play surround the widow of a South Dakota man after his sudden death following a meal. The body has been exhumed at the urging of county authorities to test for poison as investigators consider possible murder linked to a coerced marriage and reported disputes.

Carland of the U S district court in Sioux Falls South Dakota voids a dealer’s claim against Thomas Evans canceling a 2930 dollar threshing machine order Evans lodged a countermand for misrepresentation and the shipper’s lien suit is dismissed Evans faced liability but the ruling shields Evans from payment with the machine left unused in Parkston for years despite weather exposure.
Kimball D D July 14. Death by lightning reported of D B Paddock a leading stockman in Jerauld county. He and three others dipped cattle fifteen miles southwest of Wessington Springs when a thunderstorm forced them toward a barn. A bolt struck Paddock head as they ran for shelter. The Pflaums reached the barn. Paddock lay lifeless.
In Elk Point on July 14 Judge Jones found Fred and Valere Turgeon guilty of contempt of court for trespassing on Mrs. Steve Adams land in Big Sioux township. Fred and Valere Turgeon received ninety days in jail each while their father N Turgeon was sentenced to fifteen days. Sheriff Sherman arrested Charles Gray alias Tom Gordon for knocking down and robbing W Thompson of $3.50 in the railroad lumber yards.
Pierre July 14 A disabled man known as White, a longtime laborer west of the river, is detained awaiting transfer to Yankton insane asylum. He claims a mob pursues him to lynch him due to his race, having escaped from the capital and been captured after a long chase.
Verne Torrance of Deep Creek near Pedro South Dakota drowned while attempting to cross the creek on horseback when the horse slipped and threw him. News reached Rapids City, then confirmed when his brother arrived. another Torrance relative had recently died by lightning.
A Spearfish based firm, Black Hills Traction Company, has filed for incorporation to build a trolley line linking Spearfish with northern Hills towns and develop water power at Red Water. The $400,000 capital venture already has $50,000 in treasury, with Henry Keats and J F Summers named president and vice president. Operations planned to start immediately with plant in use before snow.
The towns Reliance Corsica and Stickney will be founded west of Oacoma on the Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul extension. Herron’s land was to host a town named for him but the post office objected due to mail confusion with Huron. Corsica and Stickney will appear north of Armour with Stickney as the current line terminus.
Pierre South Dakota July 15 Fred Russ a young man recently arrived from Indiana and working as a carpenter in town drowned in Bad river. He was with a fishing party and went in for a swim.
Pierre S D July 15 The state treasury reports two Morrill and Hatch fund payments from the national government. An annual Morrill fund check totals 25000 dollars and a quarterly Hatch fund check totals 3750 dollars.
Harry Hunter of the Milwaukee company reports across the northwest and especially Lyman County that crop prospects are excellent. Wheat fields may yield up to 40 bushels per acre with heavy straw and dense heads, while corn barley and oats look perfect. Early sown wheat could be ready by August 1.
Thieves blown the outer door of C. L. Price drug store safe with nitroglycerin but failed to reach the inner vault. No valuables taken. Bottles shattered and contents ruined. Two men held on suspicion.
In Walworth County South Dakota a letter from C F Clem ent the wa lworth state s attorney instructs county commissioners to hold future meetings in Bangor the county seat not Selby or any other place. Selby residents denounce the instruction claiming the attorney only advises not instructs. Aberdeen reports the commissioners will keep meeting at Selby until the South Dakota Supreme Court resolves the issue.
Miss Maggie Reedy of Beresford married Mr. Fred Bechard of Jefferson in a 5 am ceremony performed by Rev. Father ONeill. The couple left by the early train for Spirit Lake for a two weeks outing before returning to Jefferson where Mr. Bechard conducts business.
Elk Point records show a population of 1,282 in the assessor's returns, up from 1,081 in 1900 per the government enumeration. The change reflects growth since the earlier count.

The Nebraska weather and crop bureau notes a dry week with 2 degree above normal temperatures in the west and normal in the east. Rain was mainly in extreme eastern counties, totals under one half inch to over one inch in Nemaha and nearly three inches in Richardson. Harvesting moved fast with winter wheat mostly cut, oats opening, alfalfa good, and corn advancing toward normal growth.
Marie Micka, famed as the belle of Racine's Hungarian settlement, danced with 300 partners over two days and nights to earn 150 dollars at her wedding feast with Mike Micka. The proceeds fund their modest cottage.
A lynching is threatened at Nashville Howard county Ark according to a Gazette special. Dave Jeans a Negro alleged to have attacked Miss Willie Reeder daughter of a prominent citizen has been captured by a posse at Spring Hill eight miles from Nashville.

The weather bureau reports no material relief from the current high temperatures for three or four days. Light showers may occur in the west gulf states and mountain regions of North Carolina and Virginia, but readings in eastern Pennsylvania New York and New Jersey reached 96 to 98 degrees.

New York July 20 The $5000 fine against Robert E. Peary s new ship the Roosevelt for leaving Portland Maine without proper clearance papers will not have to be paid an order from Acting Secretary Garfield of the department of commerce and labor stated.
A majority of the stock in the Equitable Life Assurance Society has been transferred to the board of trustees led by Grover Cleveland. Thomas Ryan, who bought Hyde’s stock, agreed to sell back to the society the shares for the same amount paid plus interest, mutualizing the holding.
Miss Rose Pastor and John G. Phelps Stokes wed at St Luke's church Noroton in a simple ceremony with about 100 guests. After a breakfast at the groom's home they plan two months abroad before returning to New York to continue settlement work. Pastor, a noted Jewish social reformer, is described as brilliant and devoted. Stokes is a Yale graduate and millionaire who chose a life of charity.

In Meeteetse Wyoming a blast at the Kir yin gold mine killed shift boss M. A. Chubb and miners William Goss and James Miller. Four others were seriously injured. Dr. Richards raced from Thermopolis covering mountains in under eleven hours, aided by four horse relays and ranchers along the route.
