Gold Men Seated and Senate Hill Chooses Temporary Chairman
The National Committee selected Senator Hill as temporary chairman and decided to seat the gold delegation from Michigan despite silver opposition. The Nebraska and South Dakota cases favored gold, while Michigan's gold seating surprised silver leaders who may push a minority report. A convention fight looms as silver leaders face a possible deadlock without broad support.

McLean Boom Moves in Ohio Delegates at July Conventions
In Cuiiaco July 7 the McLean candidacy rumors stir among Ohio delegates. Friends hope Bland and Boies split support to create a path for a dark horse. If not named first on the ticket his backers aim to place him at the top of the slate, or fail that, at least position him on the ticket tail. Iowa Democrats plan to move to Chicago with Boies favored for nomination and contingencies for a congressional run if needed.
