Resignation Ends Madison City Commissioner Case
Madison, June 29. J A Johnson resigned as Madison city commissioner ending a long dispute over a corrupt practices act challenge to his 1916 election. A July 10 special election will fill the vacancy. Johnson had offered to take 400 a year instead of 500, a move critics said aimed to influence voters. The legislature later graded salaries by city size, and a new hearing ordered by the state supreme court prompted resignation to avoid further litigation.
