Soldier Peterson Laid To Rest In Mitchell
The body of Sergeant Peterson arrived in Mitchell with a long procession of carriages and lay in state at Graceland cemetery where interment occurred. Odd Fellows conducted last rites with a firing squad from Co. D and taps sounded by Musician Owen. Peterson had served in Cuba and the Santiago surrender, renewing ties during a 1888 visit with his brother Axtel. The community extends sympathy to Mr and Mrs Peterson.
