Melvin Thompson of Letcher owned a car found with seven skunks under the rear seat near the city outskirts. In municipal court he pleaded guilty to driving a car without a license number and was fined $10. He said the car bore a 1914 number and he planned to relicense after July 1.
Pierre South Dakota The farm labor problem for the harvest season will be managed by W A Branch of Mitchell who will base headquarters at Huron. He will coordinate with the National Farm Labor Exchange for men and rely on Commercial clubs for demand reports to send only the needed number to each community and limit the influx per locality.

Petey Curtain drilled into a den hoping for wolf scalps but discovered three young antelope instead. Although no bounty exists, success in rearing them could fetch a good state price as a herd in the forest reserve remains unstarted after prior failures.
The supreme court ruled in the Carlon versus Western Union Telegraph Co. case, dating from Armour in 1904, where a telegram reading Offer car three white oats forty-five was misread as forty. The oats were shipped at 40 cents per bushel, and the sender sought $99.26 difference. The court upheld the verdict for the full amount, affirming the circuit court.
Frances Stablein aged 14, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Stablein, drowned while bathing with three friends at Lake Minneche in Wylie Park near Aberdeen. Park attendants and rescuers pulled the other girls from the water, but Frances died after thirty minutes. Police and a physician arrived but could not save her.

Edward Breen died in Spencer South Dakota after a sudden stomach hemorrhage while visiting his sister Mrs Frank Crawford. Physicians and nurses were summoned but he passed away within hours, authorities reported.
The state supreme court in Curran v Kent ruled brokers who list property may not secretly purchase it. J W and J L Curran of Lead claimed a $3000 net sale. Christina Kent of Albuquerque listed property for $4000 and later repudiated upon learning the brokers were the buyers. The circuit court sided with the brokers but the supreme court reversed.
During a severe electrical storm yesterday morning lightning struck attorney Bartelt's new residence. The strike damaged the house and injured Bartelt's sister from Sioux City who was visiting.
The New Hampshire Insurance Company files a sworn 1914 year end statement showing total admitted assets of 6 850 079 05. Balance sheet reports capital paid in cash 1 450 079 09 and surplus over liabilities. Premiums received and losses paid are listed with nationwide business notes and state certification by J O J Stablein. The report is certified to February 1916 with official seal.

Murdo, Kadoka, Belvidere, Murdo, Kennebec, Oacoma and Yankton competed in the Makestea Lawn Tennis Association annual meet. Murdo captured the silver loving cup by defeating Kadoka’s team amid endurance matches. W Lange of Murdo beat Joe Pease of Kadoka in singles finals after a long tussle. Lang and Miller edged Pease and Tracovee in doubles. Jones and Pier of Belvidere won the consolation doubles.
Local music lovers heard the Yankton College Quintette in Murdo at the M. E. church on Tuesday evening. The concert, directed by Prof. L. N. Daley, drew a good crowd and was praised as a leading entertainment in the region. The group was en route to the Black Hills to perform in larger towns.
Catherine Fr. Carlin, ten, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. Fr. Carlin of Leslie, was dragged about five hundred yards after falling from a pony. Her foot caught in the stirrup and she died soon after. Mrs. James J. Lahey and her daughter visit Winona, Minnesota.
