Death of Henry M Rice Prominent Minnesota Statesman

Henry M Rice, longtime St Paul resident and prominent figure in Minnesota history, died suddenly in San Antonio Texas while there for health reasons. Born in Waitsfield Vermont in 1816, he moved to Michigan in 1833 and to Fort Snelling in 1839. He helped establish trading posts from Lake Superior to the Red River, settled in St Paul in 1848, served as delegate to Congress beginning in 1849 and again in 1853, and was United States senator from 1858 to 1863. His remains will be brought back to St Paul for burial.
