Londoners use all vacant lots for food crops

Scarcity of food leads the board of agriculture to empower local authorities to take vacant land for cultivation. The Vacant Land Cultivation Society, led by the late Joseph Fels, will work with the London County Council to acquire suitable untaxed land. The society allocates small plots to families, with about thirty acres active around London. London has 14 000 idle acres beyond public gardens and parks, capable of wartime yields totaling over 500 dollars per acre. Public interest is high, and many applicants seek plots.
