Illinois Teachers Gather for Yearly Officers and Reforms

The Illinois state teachers association adjourned at noon with officers elected for the year led by President Joshua Pear and Treasurer J. R. Walker. The resolutions committee urged reforms in teachers examinations and a hygiene curriculum addressing narcotics and alcohol use. Papers on school work were presented in Des Moines and General Given lectured in the evening.

Dakota Fire and Marine Insurance Moves Office to Mitchell

At a December 20 1886 stockholders meeting in Chamberlain Dakota Territory the board unanimously voted to relocate the companys principal office from Chamberlain Brule County to Mitchell Davison County. Memorial volume to honor Logan widowhood sorrow

Murdered farmer slain by son after dance dispute

Cepar Ramos reports Isaac Burkel a farmer twelve miles north of Buffalo Creek was killed by his 18 year old son Ira who struck him with a club after protesting his attendance at a dance.
