Two Deaths From Diphtheria in Main Street Rooms
Arzula Mutehker died of diphtheria at 3 o'clock Tuesday in rooms above Tossini's fruit store on Main Street, occupied by her sister and brother-in-law Mr and Mrs John Heibal. Ill for over two weeks, she was first treated as quinsy, then moved to her sister's home, with Dr Parmelee and later Dr Levey providing care. Quarantine of the rooms hindered nursing, and efforts to find care failed until Heibal's wife fell ill and Heibal left his bakery post to help. Doctors warn that stronger nursing could have prevented the fatal outcome, urging board of health attention to nursing adequacy. Funeral held this afternoon under strict sanitary rules imposed by the board of health, with Rev Father Sheehan administering the last sacraments.
