Stockmen on the reservation west of Chamberlain face a long battle against bold cattle thieves. Two men, Carl Nelson and Olaf Nelson, plus Ole Finstad and John Dillon, head to trial as juries fear intimidation. Trials set for May term with witnesses and sheriffs marching to Davison and Sanborn counties.
A Sioux Falls paper reports a new chicken show planned with Mitchell and one or two other associations joining. Sioux Falls aims to host the state show in the future, but dates next year are set January 13 to 17. Judge C. A. Emry of Carthage, Missouri, will score the birds, marking the first southern judge for the event.
The Chicago Milwaukee special reports Engine No. 921, a 290000 pound Atlantic type, ran 85.2 miles from Chicago to Milwaukee in 87 minutes, beating the prior record and fastest schedule. It covered Caledonia to Lakewood in just over 102 mph, with a two minute 3.4 mile stretch, leaving Chicago at 10 15 pm and arriving Milwaukee at 11 42 pm, amid minor slowdowns and no water stops.
Fred L. Stevens seeks a Supreme Court appeal after a 60 day stay of proceedings granted during his November circuit court conviction. Judge Smith denied the motion for a new trial at Chamberlian last week. Stevens is to be sentenced Monday February 24 in this city.
