Child Climbs On Stove in Fatal Fire Incident
Beresford South Dakota February 11 Lola Walker four year old daughter of Mr and Mrs EBH Walker climbed onto the kitchen stove. Her clothing touched hot coals and she was enveloped in flames. Mother quickly extinguished by pushing the child into a tub of water. Clothes burned off and lower limbs paralyzed. Little chance for recovery. Two years earlier the child suffered severe injuries from a fall from a second story window.

Deadwood South Dakota February 10. In a dispute over a mongrel yellow dog William Frazer a well known local politician shot and badly injured Ike Trotter a bartender. Frazer said Trotter humiliated the dog by applying turpentine. Frazer was released on a $5,000 bond signed by six prominent men.

Freeland Pennsylvania February 10. Michael Bosack who had been drinking fell asleep during grave digging at St Jerome cemetery. To spare worry the companions placed him in a rough box and screwed the lid down. Undertaker Kirnan ordered the lid removed. Bosack sat up and asked what was happening. An Ellison hoist incident at the Homestake mine caused the cage tender and engineer to briefly lose control after the engineer struck his funny bone on a nearby object. Superintendent Grier ordered that an assistant engineer accompany the hoisting engineer whenever the cage moves, to prevent future danger.
