Two Rangemen Frozen to Death in Blizzard
Rapid City S D Feb 7 From the Cheyenne river country comes a report that a homesteader named Meyer and a sheep herder whose name is not yet learned were found frozen to death having perished during the late blizzard. The sheep herder belonged to Stuckers ranch. Rough boxes have been sent out over the Pierre branch of the Northwestern and the bodies are expected in today. Another herder with the Jay outfit on the Dakota City divide has been missing for four days and it is feared that he has met with the same fate. Mr Meyer the homesteader and his son were out cutting wood about a mile from their shack. The father started for home through the blizzard in advance of his son but upon the sons arrival at the house and finding that his father was not there started back to find him. About a mile from the house in an opposite direction the father was found frozen to death. There is being reported here almost daily serious losses in the herds of ranch cattle horses and sheep. This is by reason of the extreme cold and the heaviest fall of snow in a period of twenty years. Where heretofore there has been open grazing during the winter season there is now two feet of snow on the level. Mercury ranges from 22 to 28 below zero.
