Democrats Endorse President. Senate Caucus Backs Garland Letter

Democratic senators met in caucus and approved the president's views and actions as conveyed by Attorney General Garland in a January 29 1886 letter. They collectively pledged support for the executive and adjourned until 1 45 p m after the deliberations on the pending issue between the executive and senate.

Attorney General replies to Senate on Alabama attorney papers

Garland states papers on J. D. Bennett and other documents have been sent to the Senate judiciary committee. He says further materials remain in executive session and relate to the suspension of Geo. F. Dustin as U.S. Attorney for the southern district of Alabama. The public interest does not require further transmission.

Delegation Protests Sparks Rulings on Lands in D C

Aberdeen and Omaha delegations met Commissioner Sparks to protest land office rulings. Sparks said final receipts cannot be issued under law and urged appeals to Congress. He warned against noncompliant settlers and noted rapid patent issuance, denying new information for honest settlers. A Yankton court granted an injunction preventing a railroad crossing, with Northwestern pursuing condemnation to gain joint ownership.
