South Dakota bankers urge soil survey and analysis
H H Hopkins chair of the State Bankers Association agricultural committee urged adoption of a state soil survey and analysis. He argued soil welfare is a common concern and that inventorying soils will guide fertilization to raise crop yields and preserve soil for future generations. He cited world experiments and noted six South Dakota farmers increased corn yields by over 25 percent with targeted fertilization. He urged legislature to fund a state soil survey and analysis to sustain soil fertility and avoid the tragedy of depleted soils.
