Sanford Dodge and company delivered a fair to strong Merchant of Venice at the Mitchell opera house Saturday evening. Shylock by Dodge drew praise, Miss McCallum as Portia was a hit, and the cast including Rathbun’s orchestra earned audience approval. costumes and period accuracy enhanced the production.

Dead Soldier Boys Return Home From Manila
A San Francisco dispatch reports the Transport Pekin has arrived from Manila with 159 dead soldiers, including sixteen boys from the South Dakota regiment. Jay A. Smith of this city is listed among the dead, who died November 14, 1898. The bodies await orders and are expected to be brought home for funeral.
