Filibuster Fails as House Ushers In Wilson Bill Debate
In Washington on January 29 the House failed to reach a quorum in a bid to block a rules order extending tariff debate and permitting an internal revenue amendment to the tariff bill. The roll call showed 181 members present, ending the filibuster as Mr. Outhwaite presented the income tax amendment for a February 1 vote. Republicans plan to cut further tariff amendments by raising no quorum, likely ending metal and wool proposals from Mr. Wilson.
