A Sunday school Christmas scene at the McKenzie school house nearly led to tragedy when a Santa Claus in a cotton padded suit caught fire. In Lincoln Nebraska December 22 1893 Frederick Sargent, a Madison county farmer sentenced to twenty years for wife murder, is commuted and to be released New Year’s Day after twelve years in the state penitentiary. He has been a trusted inmate for years and killed his wife in a rage over alleged infidelity.
Washington bulletin shows 1905 acreages and production for principal crops. It notes average weights per bushel of 16.3 pounds for spring wheat, 58.3 pounds for winter wheat, and 32.7 pounds for oats.
