Faulkton South Dakota reports the disappearance of William Dana a well known farmer near Faulkton has been solved. His wife received a letter from him from the Black Hills saying he will return home soon. The cause of his earlier disappearance remains a mystery.
In Huron South Dakota Gustave Kimmel is suspected of poisoning his wife after she prepared oatmeal from a long unused package. The wife died and their son and dog were sick. the son reached his father for help but a doctor arrived late. Kimmel is under surveillance as the coroner's jury considers the case.
In Yolande Alabama the Yolande Coal and Coke company mine No 1 suffers a deadly explosion. About 30 bodies were recovered with many others feared inside the deep entry. Rescuers report fire and hot air hindering access as 26 survivors are趋势 expected to recover. The death toll may reach seventy.
In Sioux Falls South Dakota Mrs Gertrude Nicolson Brown a Canadian by marriage and divorce client dies. Charles H Barrett a local attorney sues coroner L D Miller seeking 10000 dollars for alleged slander and claims misused funds linked to Mrs Brown s burial in Hamilton Ontario. The hearing awaits Miller s return with the body.
In Garretson South Dakota Mrs John Erickson and her son Emil were held up by two highwaymen on a Sioux Falls bound trip. The mother dropped a $300 handbag into the buggy avoiding loss as attackers searched the son. John Erickson a pioneer dies at 60. Rev J N Oakley returns from England. Garretson mill to reopen under C I Magill. I J Morgan starts two high school literary societies.
Rev Billy Sunday closed his Muscatine revival with 3,612 converts. He received 6785.50 dollars from the city for the month’s meetings, collected in the last two days. Lodges with bands escorted him to the train, as a large sendoff followed. One in four residents became a convert, and three in five counted church members when including members and converts. Postmaster Roach and officials joined the converts. Sunday set records for the state and the west.

Dwight Sale, 21, son of Dr. and Mrs. F. O. Sale, former Huronians now living in Urbana Illinois, was killed in a mine accident. No other details were provided. Mrs Anna Maria Barndmire, about 76, widow of Charles Barndmire, died at her daughter Mrs A L McWhorter's home in this city on Friday December 13.

Chicago December 17 Judge Landis and lawyers in the Standard Oil case disclose three commodity tariff books of the Chicago and Alton used as evidence are missing. The records, excluded at trial, may be cited in seeking reversal in the U S court of appeals.
Sioux Falls Dec 16 The Democratic State Committee adjourned after calling two conventions. The first, to elect national delegates, will be held in Mitchell on the second Tuesday in April. the second, to nominate the state ticket, in Rapid City on the second Tuesday in July. Nominations to be by convention with candidates on the primary ballot by petition. Bryan endorsed for president.
In Huron South Dakota the grand jury investigates the Chicago and Northwestern Railway for sixteen hour rule breaches. About one hundred engineers firemen and brakemen have been subpoenaed as evidence was described as overwhelming against the company. The law took effect July first. Huron serves as division headquarters for the system under scrutiny.
Vermillion South Dakota December 16 The city council ordered Northwestern Telephone to remove poles and wires from streets and alleys. The company refused and the dispute moved to the circuit court. Northwestern now asks for federal court to take the case.
Augustus Browning Prentice, a former Harvard and Columbia educated lawyer and sole heir to a $2,000,000 New York estate, died in Bloomingdale asylum after two years of private care and mounting stress from managing the family fortune. His wife Maud Fowler Brevoort urged rest. Early December 1906 marked the hopeless turn.
Lillian Wulff ten year old, kidnapped last Saturday from Chicago, was found in Momence Illinois. A man and woman with her were arrested and claimed to be Mr. and Mrs. William Jones en route from Pennsylvania to Missouri. The girl said she was picked up on Chicago streets and traveled under the name Jones. She escaped once between Kankakee and Chicago and had appeared neglected, with little washing during captivity.
Relatives of Stephen Buhrer former Cleveland mayor recall ties with John D Rockefeller. Buhrer died at age 81 or 82. funeral arrangements await Rockefeller's response. Buhrer and Rockefeller met summers as Buhrer ran a nearby saloon in earlier days. Rockefeller reportedly sought a job once but was not hired.
Washington December 16 The bark beetle devastating South Dakota pine forests appears checked by a fungus that inhabits dying trees and kills young beetles. The fungus acts as a bark peeler, loosening bark and exposing galleries to death, slowing an infestation that since 1910 had cost at least one billion board feet of timber worth about six million dollars at current prices.
The ninth annual convention of the Retail Implement Dealers of South Dakota, southwestern Minnesota, and Northwestern Iowa adjourned in Watertown after passing resolutions urging Congress to reject parcel post bills cutting first class rates by half and to place express rates under federal supervision. Officers elected include President J. E. McDougall Britton and Secretary Treasurer E. C. Barton Vermillion. directors and committees were named from multiple towns.
Watertown South Dakota December 14 The Retail Implement Dealers association of South Dakota southwestern Minnesota and northwest Iowa held its ninth annual convention in session asserting express tariffs strip profits from repair departments and urging lower rates or parcel post. C E Sanders of Chicago urged faster payments with 1 percent monthly discount and settlement on receipt of invoice as retailers face new terms. Farmers now get short terms yet may bear the impact as dealers adjust to hardware and dry goods practices.
Federation Council of Churches of Christ in South Dakota concludes its annual meeting at Broux Falls with support for county local option and a national divorce law. Officers elected include President Rev W H Thrall and Secretary R B Hudson of Huron. Next gathering set for Mitchell December 10-11, 1908. Executive committee members named from Huron and Yankton.
Belle Fourche South Dakota reports the 1907 cattle season nearly closed with about 65000 head shipped and 1800 railcars of cattle sheep and horses sent east mainly to Omaha and Chicago Prices rose $5 to $10 per head before the market slump. More cattle remain on the range and shipment space is prepared for 1908.

A yellowed, uncashed $100 check drawn in 1885 on First National Bank of Rapid City by Major John R. Brennan to the Eighty Stamps baseball club has been found behind an old feed store. The club no longer exists and its members have no claim. the check will be framed as a souvenir for Grennan’s brother.
