Huge Excavation Planned For Northwestern Route North Of Rapid City
Rapid City South Dakota December 14 a massive project will take months and 100 men and teams to dig a cut eighty feet deep north of the city for the Northwestern reservation road. More than 100000 cubic yards of earth will be moved. The Northwestern company began work near the baseball park with sidetracks to supply materials for sixty five miles of track to be built from this end. The Missouri River and Northwestern company expect to complete their line by January 10 hindered previously by labor shortages. A mass meeting of citizens urged inducements to attract the largest foundry company in Nebraska to locate here and the meeting approved the demands.

Fire began in a basement bicycle shop run by Dan Sharp and spread toward a jewelry store and post office area. The safe toppled during the blaze awakening W. W. Main, his son Chester, and B. T. Laurie who raised the alarm. Firemen extinguished the flames before serious damage.
