Watertown South Dakota December 12 Manager 3S A Griggs bans Walker Whiteside showing A Musical Melody at Grand Opera house declaring it closed indefinitely. Griggs complains bookings offend morals while council moves license from 50 to 150 with 25 dollar penalties and ban on Sunday performances, hinting at a potential clash if ordinance passes.
In Yankton South Dakota on December 12, during the funeral of her husband Andrew McKeachie the widow died from pneumonia brought on by exposure while the couple were picking corn.
The South Dakota Synod of the Presbyterian church reports 110 ministers 127 organizations and missions 107 houses of worship 46 manses and church property valued at 261800 plus college property near 210000. It lists 1662 Christian Endeavor members 6883 church communicants and over 10000 Sunday school members. Expenditures reach 82772 the largest in its history.
Yankton South Dakota December 12 County Commissioners Howard and Mehrer while inspecting the new jail were locked in when a catch jack snapped. A recently installed telephone allowed an officer to summon help, the sheriff arrived with keys and released the trapped officials.
Lawrence Getty formerly of White Lake South Dakota sold his homestead shanty near Murdo in anticipation of final proof. The land office ruled the sale abandoned the claim and Getty must reside eight more months before final proof.

James H. Doyle, a camp school teacher, was arrested earlier on a statutory charge filed by 18 year old Nettie Gailey. He married the girl to end the prosecution and has been dropped by the school board.
Alfred Dupont, famed Wilmington powder magnate, fled to Sioux Falls to escape cruel treatment. He secured a divorce there despite substituting his address on the hotel register from Wilmington to Sioux Falls, with plans to revert to Wilmington in future documents.
Sioux Falls reports John Stout a leading figure in state band circles and head of the Fourth Regimenters here died today from typhoid pneumonia.
Washington Dec 18 Representative Burke of South Dakota on the house Indian committee secured additional appropriations for the Indian service in South Dakota. Funds go to the Canton insane asylum Rapid City Indian school Chamberlain Indian school Pierre Indian school irrigation equipment and salaries plan for nonreservation school superintendents. The committee also added 5000 for allotment work and a 15000 urgency deficiency bill item. Senator Gamble introduced a bill to open Cheyenne River reservation to settlement.
The Ivred J. Smith Club debuts in Washington D C with 42 charter members. The organization aligns with Jed B. Smith's evangelism and YMCA work, planning to meet during his Washington visits to broaden moral and financial support.

In Artesian South Dakota on December 10 a remarkable Democratic victory stands out. Hon. Robert F. Dowdell editor of the Artesian Advocate won the Senate seat in the Eighteenth district by a 289 vote plurality despite about 1,506 Democratic tickets in the district and a historically Republican stronghold.
Rapid City South Dakota reports faster population growth as railroads arrive. The post master will hire an extra clerk amid rising postal business. The fall school census shows a 26.7 percent population gain, the largest in the state, with Aberdeen second at 16.2 percent.

Deadwood South Dakota reports 121 women and 239 children at the Ft Meade camp facing destitution. The fire department under Chief McHugh gathers clothing bedding and shoes to ease hardship for women and children among the government prisoners.
Sam Keator of the Keator ranch in northeast South Dakota died of heart disease while unlacing his shoes at home in Castlewood. He was noted as one of the state’s wealthiest residents and is survived by his wife and two sons, one an attorney in New York and the other a Yale student.

Judge E G Smith in Sioux Falls grants a continuance for the murder case against Mrs Emma Kauffman in Yankton. The trial is moved to the latter part of the April term, likely into May, with defense claiming readiness and mental health concerns cited by physicians. Prosecution opposed but affidavits supported the defense. Spectators filled the courtroom.

Lake Andes South Dakota December 7 A movement to deliver mail on traveling trains gains momentum led by livestock dealer M B P Steele. About 1000 petition copies have been distributed urging the postmaster general to arrange postal delivery on all railroad divisions to save time and eliminate unnecessary mail routing.
Geddes South Dakota reports a calm weather note with a remarriage announcement after a sudden divorce. Westover informs the public that on November 16 he released his wife to live with her parents in Ohio and later married Lois J. Smith at Yankton on November 21 1905.
Vermillion S D December 7 members of the Tridentia society at the state university have learned from Washington that their petition for Phi Delta Theta membership has been accepted a delegation will visit to conduct initiatory services. The group with about seventy members has housed since 1903 at a clubhouse costing eight thousand dollars not including furnishings. Officers listed include H Ernest Beebe Ipswich president Floyd Cooper Canton vice president Percy Sutphen Miller secretary Kenneth Sawyer Dell Rapids treasurer Burdette Elmore Vermillion custodian. Delegates represented the society at the Washington meeting were Senator O W Thompson J W Raish Denny Sullivan and M Is Thompson.
Watertown argues it should host the South Dakota Educational Association annual meetings, contending its hotels and rail access rival the three cities in the trust. Local committees from the city council, Business Men's Union, and school board will advocate at the Sioux Falls December meeting as delegates consider rotating venues through Mitchell Aberdeen Sioux Falls and Watertown through 1915.
Frank Caretto, a respected miner, died at the Caledonia mine on the 800 foot level when a slope cave in trapped him as he and partner Theodore Waldschmidt pushed a car. Waldschmidt escaped by leaping away before the debris buried Caretto. A coroner's inquest will be held. Caretto leaves a wife and three daughters. funeral to be conducted under the miners union.
A farmers institute will be held in De Smet South Dakota December 10 and 11 with speakers Ada Howie on home dairying Wheaston on dairy topics R F Lyons on horse breeding and related subjects Cole on corn crop rotation and seed treatment Chamberlain on beef cattle hogs and poultry. Hundreds of leading farmers are expected to attend the event.
Governor Elroy accepts the resignation of C. H. Argo as county judge of Lyman County and appoints judge-elect C. H. Sweet to the position in Pierre South Dakota with the change taking effect immediately.
Belle Fourche S D December 7 J W Warren who moved from Aberdeen last spring and filed a homestead near Seim three miles away has vanished. He checked into Wilsons hotel then left town two weeks ago after leaving his team at a livery stable and has not been seen since.
Watertown South Dakota December 7 Fred Potti cary released on parole from Sioux Falls penitentiary after petition signed in city and county. His wife needs his help to support their children.
