Change in receivers at Mitchell land office bold move

The Mitchell land office saw a change as Mr. T. C. Burns became receiver, succeeding L. B. Whitcher. The transfer, approved in Washington, followed a smooth handoff from Mr. Whitcher, who will remain in Mitchell to practice law. George Foster of Alexandria is named as likely successor to Register Boynton, with clerks Sherman and A. A. Boynton retained.

Former Mitchell figure J. W. Beattie ex postmaster is moving to Sioux City to take a higher post with the Peavy Grain company recently held by G. B. Mack Beattie has traveled for the firm along the Minneapolis and St Louis line and will relocate his family from Slayton Minnesota once a satisfactory home is secured. Peddlers License Law Test Case in Spink County

T C McCumber representing Lovering Browne Co Chicago was arrested at Mellette on a charge of soliciting and taking orders without a license. The justice found him guilty and fined 25 dollars. The attorney cites interstate commerce and unconstitutionality. Lovering Browne Co have shipped groceries to northern state districts all fall, about a carload weekly, for subscribers in country areas.

Thanksgiving day weather cast a cold snowy scene kept worshippers away in numbers. Congregational church held services led by Rev Burleigh and Rev Stevens with Rev C W McConnell of the Baptist church delivering the sermon. Choir offerings and a liberal appeal for the poor marked the observance as residents stayed indoors and enjoyed turkey and fireside comforts.

John Morris of Grand Mound Washington died quietly at her son R A Morris home on Fourth Avenue and Chestnut Street at about noon on Tuesday aged 79 years 8 months 2 days after six weeks illness She was mother to nine children eight surviving forty two grandchildren thirty four living and one great grandchild all in Washington and Dakota Mrs Morris once lived with her husband in London England

The Morris family, once part of the Society of Royal Architects, moved to Canada where he led Parliament buildings at Ottawa, Toronto University, and the Nebraska state capitol in Lincoln.
