Population decline masks South Dakota growth in west
The South Dakota census shows a state wide drop around fifty thousand, with southeastern counties up modestly. Decline centers in newer areas as settlers leave land claims after proving up, while western and northern counties pivot to dairy and diversified farming, improving overall prosperity. A Russian press dispute over Allied help hints at wartime tensions but unlikely a separate peace.
