Geddes Tragedy Shocks South Dakota Town
In Geddes a man and a woman were found murdered in a lumber office after a fire. William H. Menzie, 52, and Blanche Signall, 21, were killed with a hammer and gunshot, their hands and feet bound. The crime, likely planned, stunned local residents and prompted a coroner’s jury verdict pending Monday. The couple’s deaths followed a lateThursday office visit and a Friday fire, with robbery ruled out by intact safe contents and no witnesses. Miss Signall, the main breadwinner and to wed Lawrence St Marie in June, is mourned by family and the town.

Lyman County Seeks Tax Refund Battle Near Rosebud Reservation
County commissioners in Oacoma move to recover 30 000 to 40 000 in allegedly illegal taxes collected from merchants and ranchers in unorganized neighboring counties near the Rosebud reservation. If denied, the dispute may go to the state circuit court. Attorneys argue Lyman county overtaxed residents outside its borders and that state rights to prosecute crimes on the reservation were ceded to the United States years ago.
