Report from off Massachusetts coast says heavy naval guns were heard near Cape Cod early this morning amid a sea engagement. Authorities confirm a suspected U boat attack with reports of afloat insurgent activity and defensive maneuvers by escort vessels.
Coast guard stations at Race Point Peaked Hill Bar and High breach off Provincetown heard heavy guns near Massachusetts Bay today. Navy officials doubted a naval engagement but suspected possible Allied ships on parole may have saluted or engaged as warships.
