School Land Section Sold At High Prices In Davison County
Sales of Davison county school lands at the courthouse by a School and Public Lands commissioner group raised $91.50 per acre average for 13 farmers. Prices ranged from 60 to 94.90 an acre, with J W Campbell paying 40 acres at the top price in Perry township. The land was appraised at 80 per acre, marking a new high. The unsold 6500 acres were leased from 40 cents to 5.25 an acre, mostly for grazing, with two agricultural leases listed at 2 and 3.25. Scarcity of farming land is blamed for the high prices.

Scouts to Close Loan Campaign Drive Starts April 27
The Boy Scouts of America will begin a loan drive on April 27 and run until May 4. Scouts are instructed not to solicit bonds before the start date and to limit solicitations to individuals, not corporations. In Davison county the drive is expected to last four days, ending around April 21. Bronze medals will be awarded to those selling bonds to at least ten subscribers, with a bar added for those who met last year’s division targets.

Funeral services for Maurice Fitzgerald, who died at his home in Mitchell on Saturday, March 29 after a short illness, were held at Holy Family Catholic church on Monday morning April 1. Interment followed in Yankton cemetery. He was born in Shullsburg Wisconsin on April 20 1858 and moved to Yankton county South Dakota at age 22, later relocating to Parkston in 1942. Survived by his widow one son Emmet N. Fitzgerald of St Johns Oregon and nine brothers in North and South Dakota.

Mitchell Bands Set Sacred Concert Sunday Afternoon
Mitchell municipal band and Mitchell juvenile band will give their first sacred and patriotic concert Sunday at 3 pm in city hall directed by Prof. I. B. Flanders. Railroad Engine Crashes Car Foreman in Four Towns
Ole Gilbertson, foreman for the Great Northern railroad car repair crew in Whitetown, died at Luther Hospital after being crushed by a freight car at the local yards. He remained conscious for over an hour, then fell into a coma and did not recover. The accident occurred when an engine, unaware of his location, backed into the car while Gilbertson worked on draw rods.
