Easter Sunday services drew large congregations with hymns and pastor messages. The day featured bright sunshine and warm air, elevating the joyful mood as a fashion parade showcased Beau Brummel inspired attire.
Easter at First Baptist featured 000 in attendance with Rev. Robert Lincoln Kelley receiving twenty new members at communion. Lauritz Miller spoke on Christian Citizenship, and Miss Georgena Smith led the B Y P U as the Morse Men's Bible class heard a fine address. The Knights Templar service included an afternoon address on The Symbols of the Crusader, the Cross and the Crown. A large audience enjoyed a masterful chorus program led by Miss Fernel L Medley with solos by Sylvan Wood and Charles Brown and piano by Miss Helen Power, highlighted by selections from Stainer Gaul Buck and Hayden The Creation.
Easter services at the First Methodist Episcopal church drew perfect attendance and a standing room crowd for a 6 o’clock concert. The pastor Dr J S Hoagland preached on life in Christ and the afterlife asserting the glory of existence beyond death. Shipments to Christian missions surpassed 1200 dollars indicating strong giving. Rev J W Hancher JD of New York attended as a guest speaker and added to the event.
The Sunday school led by Prof. S. D. van Genthuysen raised about 800 for missions as 1,000 attendees enjoyed songs, class offerings, and short talks by Mrs. J. P. Jenkins and Dr. W. S. Shepherd. Miss Mary K. Walters led Epworth league service. Prof. Ed. W. Hobson directed.
Services at the Presbyterian church drew crowded attendance as both morning and evening programs featured extensive choral singing and solo numbers. Florence Charlesworth and Anna Bruce led a string of special performances with Mrs Brackett and a piano trio delivering well received pieces under L A Williams and Mr Peterson’s baton.
Davison county lands were auctioned at the courthouse by Commissioner Fred Wepperle. Buyers paid above appraised values with James Grady and Henry Weber paying $70 per acre for a 40 in Tobin township. In all 677.95 acres sold for $33,218. 4,120 acres remain to be leased tomorrow.
Madison South Carolina voters will decide on April 20 in the annual city election two propositions. One measures the issue of bonds totaling 50 000 to fund construction of additional schools.
The city council considers two bond questions to aid schools. One seeks funds for constructing suitable buildings for high school use and the other for issuing $5,000 in bonds to purchase a school site. Officials believe city voters will approve both measures by strong margins due to the need for expanded facilities.
High water from a six year high James River rise inundates low land and floods Tobin's Park. Bridges near Tobin's Park, west approach to the south bridge, and several smaller crossings are washed out or impassable. A near bridge collapse on a drainage ditch nearly spared J D Test's family. Water receded some by noon as warm weather melted more ice and snow.
Judge L D Boucher of Aberdeen South Dakota received a letter from his son John Boucher who serves in France with a Canadian contingent of the British army. The former US Navy member wrote that soldiers must duck to avoid German fire when they see the flash from allied rifles.
Doland South Dakota authorities have no trace of the Doland post office yeggmen who escaped with stamps and money valued about 1500 dollars. Twenty dollars of stamps were recovered beside the rail line two miles from town. a small sack and mostly large denomination stamps were found. The robbers blew the safe and appear to have covered their tracks, making capture seem unlikely.
In Sully county sections the ground is covered by a solid ice crust twelve to eighteen inches thick hindering jack rabbits from reaching any vegetation. The extreme cold and ice trap wildlife, causing starvation among the rabbits as they struggle to find food.

He received eleven months in the Sioux Falls penitentiary with suspension conditioned on thirty days in the county jail and strict sobriety within county lines. If he drinks during the term his parole will be revoked and he returns to the penitentiary.
Six inmates escaped from the North Dakota state penitentiary after attending a weekly motion picture in the prison auditorium. They sawed off window bars in the library room and fled while guards bloodhounds and citizen search parties scour the countryside.
Fred Hanson a wolfer working with ranchers along the White River in Terre S D earned 509 dollars for a single day’s work by locating an old she wolf and den destroying the mother and nine cubs at fifty dollars per wolf. Wolves threaten livestock including calves colts and steers and a band of wolves can kill multiple animals in a short span. Hanson’s haul reflects the spring wolf control efforts in the range country.
The annual event at Crescent Theater crowned Ralph Bray in oratorical and Marcia Jefferson in declamatory with Pearl Taylor second and Marie Krog third. Three out of town judges attended from White Lake and Wesleyan University Mitchell. Mrs Vencel Rozum wife of a prominent farmer and mother of Chief Dispatcher Rozum died in Mitchell of pneumonia after several weeks illness.
