Late 1880s Dakota land filings and final proof notices

A long sequence of land office notices from Mitchell South Dakota detail settlers like Dean Pringle Glesson and others filing intention to make final proof for their claims. Widespread witness lists name locals such as Walker Pringle Smith Pooley Soul and others proving continuous residence and cultivation across sections in Davison County. The notices are signed by George B Everitt Register with dates in February March and April 1887.

Cuban Desperadoes Shot to Death for the Commission

In Santiago Cuba two mulatto men Juan Jique and Juan Gomez attacked a cocoa mule train driver and a boy, killed them with swords, and torched the goods selling the cocoa for 65 dollars. Captured after a stubborn case, they were executed by firing squad before thousands. Gomez confessed to ten murders, claiming his family’s murderous heredity. The leader begged for rum before execution.

By noon half the registered vote was cast in the city with wards showing strong Republican support and Labor tickets leading in some precincts. Roche for mayor led by 15,000 to 20,000 in early reports. corrected returns put his majority at 18,166. Demarr reports suggest Republican gains. Prohibition amendment contested. Cincinnati results indicate Republican plurality in major races and school boards.

Cincinnati Train Timetables Absent In Accord With Papers

Cincinnati reports today show no time of arrival or departure column for trains. Newspapers agreed to cease free timetable publications as a protest against passport stoppages and accept advertising tickets instead. Railroads said they will publish ads when ordered and consider timetables non advertising.

Flood destroys mill dam and town tenement in INQEnson

A fresh flood swept away the king's mill dam in INQEnson Ontario on April 7. A tenement housing four families was carried off and wrecked. John Bowmen and his daughter, John McNeil and an unknown child were drowned. A man named Laird and his daughter are missing.
