Thirty years ago at Dakota University in Mitchell the second term of the 1886 collegiate year closed with about 55 students passing exams creditably. Despite early building and heating issues and faculty shortages, Dr Brush was absent much of winter, yet Prof Eastman and his wife along with Profs Duncan and Shanton kept the school organized and progressing. Dormitories, finished classrooms, and a substantial dining hall were in place as Miss Lynn led music, marking a strong first-year showing for the institution.
