In a spring election South Dakota towns swung toward prohibition with Aberdeen and Mitchell voting to become dry. The Aberdeen tally finished in a dead heat with 1335 votes and a 102 vote majority against license, while Salem shifted to wet. Anti-Saloon League officials hailed 16 town gains statewide and pledged legal challenges where petitions were weak.

Romance of National Democratic Chairman May End in Divorce

Mrs. William F. Arcombs rumorously cites a possible divorce from the national chairman while in Washington. Chamberlain voters chose pro license by 160 to 92, with J. B. Lanehim elected mayor and Fred J. Croft winning a school board seat. School bonds passed 216 to 109 for a new building.

Women Save School House Bond Issue in Chamberlain

The city election resulted in Mayor L. Blaughlin and Board of Education Wred Croft. Voters approved 18000 dollars in bonds for a new high school building and the wets won. Women rallied to the polls and saved the day.

Aberdeen election tie prompts charges against ward judges

Aberdeen South Dakota reports a tie 1525 1525 on the license question from 2748 ballots. Judges in wards three and four face accusations of gross carelessness and possible criminality for unstamped ballots. A packet of 20 registered letters to Judge Lawson was found after polls closed and unstamped ballots were counted.

Kimball Votes Turn Dry in First Post Years Result

In Kimball S D the town went dry by two votes ending years of wet status. R Joslin defeated M Lieseh for alderman in the first ward while J Yorish beat H Halverson in the second ward and John Wolf won over John Brooks in the third. Chamberlain and Pukwani remained wet with Chamberlain carried by 67 votes and Pukwani by a smaller margin than last year.

Deadwood Barely Goes Wet In Vote Titting the Hills

In the Black Hills Deadwood narrowly voted wet by 89 ballots while Rapid City and Custer shifted dry by 47 and 22 respectively. Sturgis stayed dry on the saloon plan and Lead voted wet with a road bond of 20000 dollars and a three cornered no election for municipal judge prompting a possible runoff. HK L Senn of Deadwood lost his alderman bid to N J Thompson as the water bond was defeated.

Roosevelt Testifies In Barnes Libel Trial On Bossism Views

Theodore Roosevelt resumed testimony in New York Supreme Court to justify publishing a Barnes libel statement. He described Barnes urged protection of big business and party bosses for fundraising and organization, and recalled his Spanish American War service and political career. Barnes attended portions of the hearing but showed waning interest as Roosevelt spoke.

Ford workmen get increase and shorter hours

Detroit reports Ford Motor Company Limited in Canada announces a wage and hours reform. G. M. McGregor, general manager, states all employees with six months service receive at least fifty cents per hour and four dollars per day, with hours cut to eight per day. The Detroit parent company pays five dollars daily under the profit distribution system.

Dynamiters Fire Under House Kill Couple in Pa

Samuel Teonoff was killed and his wife seriously injured when dynamite exploded under a corner of their house in the early hours. About a dozen others in the home were injured. Ten foreigners were arrested and detained for investigation. Police say the men are linked to a union with which Teonoff had disputes as a union official.
