Dr Newton McVey assistant physician of the Colony died in Kansas City on September 2 after a lingering illness. He returned from here for recuperation but grew worse and passed away. He came here about a year ago and was a capable pleasant gentleman with many friends who are pained by his death.
OLA BOSTON fifteen year old son of James Boston died at New Frankfort on September 10 after a weeklong illness from a rising in his head. Blood poisoning caused death. Burial in New Frankfort cemetery last Thursday. he was a good boy with many friends.
Sir Deckard died at Bisbee North Dakota on Monday Sept 6 1912 at 7 pm age 31 years 6 months 16 days. Remains arrived Friday with his father and mother who were called to his bedside two weeks earlier. Funeral at Union Baptist church Sept 4 conducted by Rev Cane pastor of M E B church South of Malta Bend. Interred Union Cemetery. Survived by father mother four brothers John Joe Archie Dennis and three sisters Mrs Stockman Mrs Hildebrand and Mrs Sheley of Kentucky. Biographies cannot ease death but his life of energy and industry will be missed. Malta Bend Correspondent.
A brief death notice records Louise Jewell Crump dying at 19 months on September 19 1918 from cholera infantum. She is described as dearly loved by her parents Orville and Mrs Crump and a little brother, with burial at Hazel Grove cemetery on September 11 notes.
Albert Hayden Owens, son of Mr and Mrs Albert Owens, died September 6 1912 in Boonville after a brief illness. He was ill one week and received medical aid and tender nursing. Funeral services planned for Saturday, September 29.
The message honors the short life of Hayden, his family and friends, and a funeral at the M E church conducted by Rev Cane of Malta Bend. Floral offerings adorned the white casket as loved ones recall his bright smile and the faith that binds them. Hayden’s burial in the cemetery is described with reflections on heaven and reunion.
Miss Emma Harvey a Saline teacher died at her parents home in Nelson on Sunday September 15 from typhoid fever after teaching at Rudge Prairie Shelby school and Murrell school north of Nelson. Funeral at Nelson Church at 2 30 burial in Nelson cemetery. Survived by parents Mr and Mrs James Harvey and a brother Harry of Clinton. Community extends sympathy.

Allen Hedges died at his parents home near Norton Sunday evening after a brief typhoid illness. Funeral services were held at the residence Tuesday afternoon led by Rev. A. J. Baker, pastor of Mt. Horeb Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The burial followed at Ridge Park cemetery in Marshall. A member of Mt. Horeb church, his death at 21 mourned the community.
Anna Laura Wright four year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Barry Wright died at home in Malta Bend Sunday at 11 am from inflammation of the bowels She had been sick only a short time The parents and family are grieved by the loss and receive heartfelt sympathy from the community.
For twenty four years an employee of B PF Naylor Hardware and Furniture Co, most recently at the Union Depot in St Louis, was run over by a train Saturday and died shortly after. He was well liked and funeral arrangements are set here Tuesday with burial in Pairview Cemetery.

Hard One on Teddy F. W. Elsner, visiting from Sweet Springs, discussed local sentiment and noted many Roosevelters in town. He shared a joke as a farmer asked if horses dying in Kansas had been read about, then inquired whether Bull Mooses would catch it too.
The Colony board last Friday appointed James R. Davis to succeed Dr. McVey as assistant physician. Davis, then a surgeon at a Chicago hospital, will move to Marshall soon. He is the son of Mrs. Eliza Davis and brother of Will Davis of this city.
Harness races start Monday September 20 and run through Friday October 4 at the Missouri State Fair. The mile track is praised as the best in the West with clean racing and growing daily events. Early races may have few entries, but larger fields appear in later Class events, promising spirited competition.
Wright a longtime janitor at the Elks Club rooms was found dead on a street near the county jail early Tuesday. He returned from a trip to Chicago the day before and suffered heart failure, survived by wife and three children. He belonged to North Street M B Church and the Masonic lodge. Funeral services were held at North Street church and burial occurred at Fairview cemetery.
Burglary occurred at J. Dunlaps Drug Store in Gilliam last Friday night. Safe blown open with nitro glycerine. 859 dollars in cash and 9 dollars in jewelry stolen. Entry gained by cutting a rear door panel. explosion heard but perpetrators not yet found.
Nollie Nollie-Taylor Gee and Lenora Taylor, daughters of Saline Val 1perous and Mr and Mrs Wm Taylor, were married Tuesday at 1 p m by Rev Strassberger of All Saints church at the minister's home. Clarence Taylor and Miss Mary Olendorf were attendants. A reception by August Nolke and wife followed. The couple will start housekeeping on the Joe F Giger farm.
Joe Roettgen and Miss Clara Haskamp of West Glasgow were married Tuesday at 9 a m in All Saints Catholic Church by Rev Strassberger. That evening the bride’s parents hosted a reception with many friends in attendance. The couple begin life with bright prospects.
Rev R C McAdie and Jacob Van Dyke traveled to Walker Missouri on Tuesday for Lafayette presbytery duties with McAdie set to lead Flist Presbyterian next Sunday. Rev C B Leeper and wife depart for Beaver Oklahoma where Leeper will lead a Presbyterian church after graduating at MV C last spring and is hailed as a promising young minister. Saline Baptist Association elected officers Com Storts moderator D C Bolton clerk and R L Hains treasurer with next year’s gathering at Bethel church. Christian Science lesson on Matter set for next Sunday at 11 am. Union services paused for season with joint preaching Sunday morning and evening. Kansas City Presbytery met at Odell Avenue church with good attendance and open meetings well received. A full report could not be published due to space.
While dining at Hayok Bros farm east of town last Wednesday, Emil Oblendorf's separator burned. The crew had just arrived to thresh after dinner when the fire started and could not prevent it. Wind direction makes engine ignition unlikely, and no prior friction is suspected, leading the crew to believe arson.

The Slater Fair will run next week on Thursday Friday and Saturday September 26 27 28. Free street attractions are being advertised as part of the event.
W. M. Guren, who has driven Bud Down’s trotting horse Baby Prince at fairs, was attacked in Shelbina while leading the horse. He was knocked down and fired upon, receiving a minor leg wound. In Macon he was run into, knocked from his cart, and bruised, though he is back at work.
County committee calls anti single tax meetings tomorrow through Saturday September 2 to elect delegates for a Marshall conference. A blacksnake enters the rarity kitchen explores shelves swallows two eggs through a tin cup handle and becomes trapped. After writhing on a shelf it escapes through the back door into weeds. A passing man who mocked a drunkard is softened by remorse and leaves a coin in the tin cup.
The Charity Organizations As Organized Society for Charities was formed at the courthouse last Friday evening. Miss Francesa Napton led the effort with G. A. Radford presiding. Rev. J. B. Smith Rev C. H. Bohn Dr. Anderson and Mayor Mitchell spoke. Officers elected:Geo H. Althouse president Chas Potter A Peecher vice presidents Rufus Holloway treasurer F. E. Rigney secretary. Visiting staff will include the secretary and ministers and their assistants.
The German Evangelical Church youth group at Grand Pass hosted a first time picnic on September 12. Merchants Messia F. A. Raver and Ernest Hotz organized efforts, raising about $160 to fund a new organ for the church. Attendees from near and far aided and enjoyed the event, with plans to repeat next year.
Judge Hiram Ferris of Johnson Hill officiated a Wednesday ceremony uniting John 8. Johnson and Miss Vera Hill of Slater in marriage. The judge praised both as handsome and lovable in remarks following the nuptials.
Dr W W Martin of Kansas City and Miss Laura M Dysart of this city were wed on September 11 at J J Kirkpatrick home with Dr W H Black officiating. Bride grew up with the Kirkpatrick family and taught at Moberly recently. Groom, a former M V C student, later graduated from a dental college and is well known here. They left for Kansas City for their future home.
Miss Bessie Walker and John Hess were wed at A J Hurt’s Wanamaker residence last Thursday afternoon. Rev B T Wharton officiated. The couple to Grand Pass as the bride departs as a Saline Baptist Association delegate and will establish a home on the groom’s Wanamaker farm. Congratulations extended.

Central committee of the Progressive party met in the county courthouse at 11 a m. J M Ancell was elected chairman, W B A Zink secretary, and J H Allen treasurer. Members present included Marshall Cambridge Salt Pond Liberty Salt Fork Grand Pass Newell Miami and Blackwater, with several names listed as attendees.
