Mrs Julia Clampit wife of Pp. BE Clampit died at her Slater home Sunday Aug 26 after a brief cancer battle. Funeral at the Catholic church Tuesday 10 am with Rev. T J Fortune officiating. Interment in City cemetery. Survived by husband two daughters Leon and Lillis. Julia Quigley before marriage, her mother an early Slater resident. The Clampits shared a long, devoted marriage.

Miss Lovie Williamson aged about 40 died Monday at her parents home near Nelson after a three week typhoid fever. A trained nurse she devoted her life to alleviating suffering and led a Christian life. Funeral was held Wednesday Sept 7 at the Methodist church, Rev W T Rainey officiating, burial in Nelson cemetery.

The Saline County Fair opened with good weather but low first day attendance. Rains on Wednesday canceled races and shifted the program to Thursday extending the fair by a day. Thursday and Friday showed ideal weather with strong attendance and organizers promise a full prize list next week.

A C A passenger train stopped at Marshall at 12 21 AM dropping a mail pouch into the depot baggage room. The pouch was moved to the post office next morning by Robertson and Co. It disappeared Sunday night and was found Monday west of the depot cut open and rifled. The agent delayed pursuit, allowing potential thieves time to act. The mail was light but cash users may face losses.

Stranded family aided at Missouri Pacific station
A penniless woman Mrs Herman and her two hungry daughters stranded at the Missouri Pacific station near Sedalia were helped by local men. Station worker B L Hill arranged food, J R Wiley provided lodging at the Merchants Hotel, and John Trusdale collected funds for transport to Marshall. They continued their journey Saturday morning.
