Deaths in Norton and Nearby Areas

Jennie van Winkle died at home in Norton August 31 after a short illness. Elmer Reynolds, two year old, died September 1 and burial followed at Harmony cemetery. An infant of Will and Mrs Keith died shortly after birth and was buried at Salt Fork. Cynthia Patterson col., wife of Geo Patterson, died in East Marshall at 65 after paralysis. funeral at North Street M E Church and burial at Fairview cemetery. Sally White col. died at Nupton this week with few details available.

Central Committee Meeting Discusses Saline Campaign Prospects

The Republican county central committee met at the courthouse Tuesday afternoon. All townships were represented except Salt Fork. They planned for the coming campaign and predicted a strong advance for the party in Saline.

Carey Wise, who runs a saloon on West Arrow Street, reports losing $900 in pager money or being robbed while he slept in the rear of the establishment Friday night.

Home Coming of Georgians Rail Fare Notice

Resigned pastor Buss to remain in Marshall

Rev. W. A. Buss, longtime pastor of the Presbyterian churches at Malta Bend and Salt Springs, has resigned and will stay in Marshall at least temporarily to send his daughter to M. V. C. The successor or future plans for Buss are not yet announced.

Horse bolted injuring driver near Striker’s store

Yesterday morning Robert Molden and I. O. Strikers colored employee were guiding a horse near Striker’s store. The horse became unmanageable and ran west throwing Molden to the street near Carpenter’s barber shop, injuring him as a bolt on the buggy loosened.

Miller case ends with common assault plea and fine

State of Mo. versus George Miller Charles Miller and John Miller faced assault to kill charges. Trial before Judge Ferrill Tuesday continued to Wednesday. Prosecutor dismissed felony count and filed common assault against Charles Miller who pled guilty and paid a 10 fine plus costs.

Mineral Showings Boost Saline Mining Hopes

Mr. Crockett from Coeur d'Alene Idaho and Herman Ludwig from Marshall visited Saline on Tuesday bearing a chunk of lead ore from Bald Knob that shows lead and copper. They believe Saline is mineral rich with traces of zinc along Blackwater and lead near Nelson, Arrow Rock, and along the Lamine. They urge efforts to open mines and unlock Saline’s wealth.

Derailment of Chicago and Alton Limited Near Bloomington

A derailed Chicago and Alton Limited train near Bloomington after a tire broke on the engine left eight cars off the track. Despite initial panic and reports of fatalities, no serious injuries occurred as a relief train and doctors arrived but were not needed. Traffic was halted until midnight when one main track was cleared.
