Arvel K Murphy died at home 4 12 miles southeast of Slater on November 15 1910 aged 13 years 7 months after a two week illness of typhoid pneumonia. He leaves his parents four sisters and two brothers. The family notes his faith and sorrowful departure to heaven with Christ. V E M
WM. HOBART HICKS was born August 14 1890 and died September 29 1910 at his birthplace home aged 14 years 1 month 15 days. He entered school September 12 but illness kept him home after one week. He was industrious and helped his father the last two years. His last words were to his father about missing chairs. He rests in the new cemetery beside his brother. Phillipsburg Herald notes Henry Wille died November 12 near Emma at age 69, survived by widow and four sons Otto George William and Henry who live nearby Sweet Springs. GEO. H. COHEN age 12 died at the colony Sunday morning of pneumonia. Remains sent to Lexington.
Cyrus M Grove 73 11 10 longtime Gilliam mill engineer died at home in Gilliam after paralysis five weeks. born Saline County near Gilliam. Survived by wife three daughters one son twenty grandchildren four great grandchildren. Funeral Saturday 1 pm Baptist church Cambridge cemetery conducted by Rev A S Moore and E D Burns.
Mrs. MRS, WM. C. Gaines dies suddenly at home in Steter from heart failure aged about 60. Wife of ex-Judge Gaines, survived by three sons and two daughters. Funeral set for Thursday to allow distance attendees. Margie Slaughter dies at home of parents near Norton Nov 3 aged 20 years 9 months 24 days. Interment at family cemetery after services.
Criminal court adjourned yesterday until next Tuesday after disposition of cases on selling intoxicating liquor. Defendants fined included James Brown Geo Williams Byron Jones $300 each, with others discharged, dismissed, or set for trial. Notable outcomes include Albert Bolder murder 1st degree awaiting Nov 29 and Edgar Fisher grand larceny two years. numerous minor offenses and paroled or discharged defendants. New and renewed subscribers listed from Slater Gilliam Marshall and nearby towns.
A. J. Odell, riding a traction engine across a bridge north of Napton, fell when the bridge gave way. The engine pinned him briefly but he was rescued. Dr. B. E. Lawless treated minor injuries including a scalded hand, a head bruise, and two rib bruises.
The Saline County declamatory contest at the High School Friday night saw Marshall Slater and Sweet Springs participants compete. Proviso Prewett of Slater won for reciting An Old Uncle and Mary D. Wilson of Sweet Springs won for How the LaRue Stakes were lost. The two winners advance to the final debate at Warrensburg tonight.
C. G. Vaughn and son J A from Miami with A J Vaughn of Kankakee NL visited Slater Saturday. The family has ten children, oldest 61, youngest 61, with no deaths in recent years. They live across Virginia to the west, as C. G. Vaughn travels to his brother in Kankakee for a visit.

J O Keyton and uncle John F Dille traveled from south of Gilliam seeking a license to wed Miss Sarah A Collins. The ceremony was planned for Thanksgiving Day at 4 pm with Rev Winn of Gilliam officiating. Keyton is a respected young farmer and the bride is described as an excellent young lady. A large number of friends were invited and wish them well.
Mike Jacoby and Lena Stegeman surprised friends by marriage last week. Lena Stegeman has spent eight years with Robin Campbell Sr. The couple’s friends extend congratulations.

Mrs Ben Spotts near Whites Island improving slowly. Mrs Will Coad of North Grand Pass better after appendicitis threat. Mrs Sam Moritz Jr suffering tonsillitis two miles northeast of Grand Pass. Addie Elliott of Butte Mo is very sick with dropsy at his brother’s near Herndon. Four year old daughter of M I Barron up and walking after infantile paralysis. Mrs C K Scott sick since Friday night now better. Infant baby of Will Moore and J Maddox both very sick. J H Detmer of Sedalia visiting Little Rock friends.
Miss Hattie Rutherford daughter of Mrs W Rutherford west of town committed death by own action in Seattle Washington early Sunday morning November 20 by saturating a kimono with chloroform and wrapping it about her head No reason given She was well known in Marshall handsome but mind not right and was sent to Nevada once then to Seattle with sisters for a fair Remains will be brought to Marshall and laid to rest in Union cemetery west of town
Alvin Loevercamp of Alma was killed while attempting to cross a railroad track on Thursday night. He was riding a horse that may have shied, throwing him as a train approached. His lifeless body was found soon after and the family received community sympathy.
A Thursday night possum hunt organized by Dr. Wingfield drew about ten people. At eight o'clock a hay-filled wagon waited on Main Street as the cheerful party settled in and prepared to begin the hunt.
A hunt gathering three miles south of town brought guests Dr. A. B. Wingfield Mrs. Wingfield Mr. and Mrs. Cooper and several young ladies and gentlemen. Dogs barked and ran through fences hedges and hollows as Bernard Weaver performed acrobatic stunts. After three hours the exhausted party returned home pleased with the experience hoping for another hunt in the future. Shackelford Cor.
Odell Avenue Presbyterian Church Sunday School held a Thanksgiving service Sunday morning with talks and songs centered on the theme of Thanksgiving.
The North Street M. E. Church quarterly meeting ran Saturday through Monday closing with a love feast. Collections totaled $45.33. Rev. Geo Reeves, pastor, was aided by District Superintendent Higgs.
