Scalded to death in tragic kitchen accident
Will Jackson of College Addition left home after placing a half gallon of lard on the stove and telling his wife to set it off later. A three year old boy pulled the bucket spilling scalding lard over his left side. Neighbors and Dr Hall attended the child, but after days of torment he died Wednesday evening.

Blackburn man commits suicide after distress
Henry Spangler, about 65, an elderly Blackburn resident, shot himself in the left breast with a 32 caliber revolver Wednesday morning and died minutes later. He had been worrying greatly and threatened to end his life. He leaves a wife and one son. Coroner Scratchfield was summoned and examined the scene.

Terribly scalded two children of Frank Phillips injured
A distressing accident at the Ike Hardin farm north of Slater on Thursday evening last week left two of Frank and Mrs. Phillips' children badly burned. A pan of boiling water toppled onto the two-year-old and the four-month-old baby. Dr. Snoddy of Slater treated them. the older child remained in serious condition by Monday.

Mrs Abe Rumins Victim Of Fall At Home
Mrs Abe Rumins of near the C. and A. district suffered a serious accident last Friday about 4 p.m. while standing on her sewing machine to fix curtains. She fell backward to the floor, was unconscious for a time, and weighed about 175 pounds. She has since recovered, according to Mr Rawmins.

Gasoline accident injuries recover for Slater woman
Mrs Geo Blackburn of Slater was thought fatally burned in a gasoline accident Sunday while cleaning her husband's trousers with gasoline in the basement on North Main Street. A match ignited the fumes and she suffered severe burns as her husband wrapped her in a blanket to rescue her.

Broocho Bob Williams in County Jail on theft spree
Robt Williams, a colored man of Slater known as Broocho Bob, was lodged in the county jail after Winston Smith a local druggist reported missing goods. Watchman Butts and Marshball Dye arrested Williams and recovered many items including ladies bands, bugs, combs, a saddle, harness, laprobe for Dulaney Bros valued at 40 dollars, 120 packages coffee, 60 pounds flour, meat, tobacco, a ham for Haynie’s grocery, and eight bales of hay from Phil Rogers.

Narrow escape in Shackleford wreck injures millard
Cc. C. Millard brakeman of Slater had a narrow escape in a wreck at Shackleford last Monday at 10 pm. The M L refrigerator car jumped the track causing the caboose to derail and burn. Millard sustained facial burns a dislocated jaw neck and shoulder sprain and cuts. Dr. F A Howard treated him and six stitches were needed. Millard was hopeful his injuries will heal quickly. The caboose burned up.
