Latimer becomes county surveyor after qualification
Frank M. Latimer qualified yesterday before County Clerk R. E. L. Smith as county surveyor. County Court was in session this week and transacted much business. Proceedings next week, Criminal Court met this week. Several cases are arranged for trial next week and a jury has been summoned. The trials of Albert Foster, Christopher Lakin, Wm. Simpson, Jos. Kiso, Bernice Brown, Ray Thiston are set for next week and N. B. Wrights trial is set for Jan. 20.

Daring highwayman robs Rock Island train near Slater
A lone bandit robbed the Rock Island Golden State limited between Kansas City and Chicago as it neared Slater Missouri. He forced crew forward, took valuables from several men before jumping off near Glasgow. Passengers described a tall, blond man about 30, calm and soft spoken. Damaged report notes at least 870 stolen. Police en route from Glasgow Slater and Kansas City to track him.

Mystery Murder Near Weir City Found
In Brush creek timber two miles north of Weir City Pittsburg reports mute evidence of a murder. The head lay near the body, hogs ate the flesh, and a hatchet lay nearby. The skull was crushed, the body likely six weeks abandoned. A blanket and pillow were near the head, clothing fragments identify a black silk shirt blue coat and overalls. A business card for H L H Schudder & Co Marshall Mo offers the only lead. Schudder suspects the deceased may be J C Wilson.

Horse Thief Flees After Check Payment Fails
A stranger using the alias G. J. Langan hired a livery horse from Lee on Saturday. Langan grew suspicious and searched the man, finding his true name asigo es! Glasgow, but the man escaped. He stayed at John Seilmeyers in West Glasgs and used a worthless check for lodging and trying to buy stock. Last heard from him in Fayette.

Confirmation totals at St Peters and Shackelford
Twenty seven girls and twenty two boys were confirmed at St Peters Catholic church Friday morning by Bishop Lillis. A special program was carried out before a large congregation. Thirteen boys and eleven girls were also confirmed at Shackelford last week.
