Death of Joseph Newton Chiswell near Miami
Joseph Newton Chiswell died at his home near Miami on November 9 1912 after years of declining health from typhoid pneumonia. Born February 27 1854 in Poolville Maryland, he married Laura Huff October 27 1875. Survived by seven sons Leon Newton Herbert Roy Preston Earl Ernest all living in Saline except Roy in Michigan. one brother Glen and sister Mrs Jas Cresap. A school board and Reynolds School member and Baptist church participant, he visited his sister in Miami recently and voted on election day. His ashes rest beside his wife in Christian cemetery after services by Brother Downing.

Mrs Steve Farrill of Miami received a telegram Monday announcing that Mack Alegre had died in Montana. Details of illness and death were not yet known in Miami. Alegre, 44, was son of Mrs J M Null now in Colorado for health. Body to be sent to Miami for burial beside stepfather the late J M Null. Remains expected late this week.

Funeral services conducted at the residence Sunday morning by Rev H J Steinhheimer. Interment at Park cemetery.

Shooting Affray Involving Brown and Hayes
Reported Tuesday morning that Joe Brown shot and killed Harry Hayes in a dispute over a personal matter. Hayes wounded in the head and neck at about ninety nine feet. Brown surrendered and was jailed, claiming self defense. Dr. Connell treated Hayes. Brown released on bond.

Among the sick Mrs J T Featherstone has been confined to bed several days. Little Nellie Barndsa has been dangerously ill for the past two weeks but is much better. Mrs Ablel Leonard has been seriously ill for a month, improving though not out of danger. Justin Crutcher, Rolla School of Mines student, has had blood poisoning from a hand saw cut. Ley P Wiley is seriously ill at St Marys hospital in Kansas City. Mrs Wiley and daughter were summering from Paris France where the daughter was in school. Mrs A J Powell of Saline suffered a relapse in Marshall returning from Kansas City where she underwent an operation. She is a sister of G W Davis of this city.
