A 16 year old, son of Stephen Pemberton, died in Kansas City after a short illness from apical meningitis. He moved from Slater years ago. His remains were brought back to Simtey Saturday for services at Donahoe home and burial in Shater City Cemetery.
A 14 year old died at home in South Slater on Friday morning March 21 after a three week illness. Burial was held Saturday afternoon at Slater city cemetery. He was a faithful Baptist church member and known as a calm man. Survived by his widow.
George Elliott Taylor aged eight, son of Mr and Mrs F W Taylor of 305 KE Verby, died Sunday due to monthgetix illness. He attended school Wednesday despite feeling ill, grew worse Thursday, and suffered a convulsion Saturday before death. The funeral was held at the Taylor residence Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev Clarence Hodge of Capital Church. Deepest sympathy was extended to the family.
Leopold Moritz born October 1 1845 in Germany came to America at eight. He served in the 67th Ohio Infantry from age 14, was wounded at Corinth and mustered out July 18 1865. He moved to Saline County in 1872 took up farming near Malta Bend. He died March 1 ? died after kidney and stomach trouble and was buried March 20. He leaves wife Mary F Hennes sons John Homer and his brother Samuel Morlin. Sympathies extended.
James P. Clopton, Jones, Lafay ette, died Sunday March 29 at 2 20 a m after long heart illness. He left Bunch & Clopton electric ad firm, served with Marshall Light Heat & Power, and ran a small electrical shop. Born in Missouri, he was 39, survived by his wife, funeral Monday at Christain church at 2 pm, burial at Ridge Park.
A brief, partially garbled notice mentions J. W. McCormack Frank Alexander OK Boneh Charles Evane and Ransberger as pollbenrere figures. It notes Mr Clapton belonged to Modern Woodmen of America and Woodmen of the World, with condolences extended to his wife children and relatives.
Marth Viegd aged 64 died at her home near Lebanon on March 18 1018 after moving from Richland four years ago. She left a husband Mr Crow and six children survive with one at the funeral. She was a longtime member of the Christian church of Lehane Alabama. Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Lehane on March 20 conducted by Rev Barclay Meador. Pallbearers named were Robert Crow Roy Crow Will Crow Hickinen Crow Charrie Mathes Floyd Jolley and Reke Jolley.

Prof Parker gathers petitions to stage a summer band concert on Marshall public square. About twenty two pieces are expected in the program as the event promises to be bigger and hotter than ever.

Lafayette Piper suffered severe facial burns this week while standing before a stove when the grate failed and flames leaped up. Neighbors rushed to help as the blaze was quickly contained by bystanders and local responders.
At about 2 am Wednesday J A Whitt prominent Mt Leonard merchant woke to dense smoke in his rooms above his store. The ground floor showroom burned completely and only the books were saved. Whitt had insurance.
Mary A. Behreeder marked her eightieth birthday Sunday at daughter Mia Ordway’s home. Family joined in a feast of baked chicken, ham, oysters and assorted sides. A decorated cake with 80 candles and lighted candle pyramids lit by children and great grandchildren highlighted the celebration. Relatives from the Ordway and Tucker families gathered, with best wishes sent from many others. Mrs. Schreckler was unable to attend though in good health.

Hert Simpson pleads guilty to selling liquor unlawfully and is fined $200. Multiple defendants face burglary, larceny, liquor violations, and weapons charges with various pleas, fines, and sentences noted. Names include Carrie Norse, George Wright, Lon Gales, Dave Mellevr, Talbott Hincher, and others. several are discharged or dismissed by the state or given probation or jail terms.
Slater reports a proposed 10 inch water main from the Missouri River to Slater with an estimated cost of 75000 dollars. If contracted the project would likely be undertaken jointly by the city of Slater and the C A railroad.
A state senate wage and investigating committee organized after adjournment with Michael Kinnes as chair, Benster Kinney replacing Speaker Wilean, Lieutenant Governor Pulnter as vice chair, Green of Kansan City as secretary, BF T Atchley of Kanaan City as clerk, and J L Roberts of Marshall as stenographer. The panel plans to act after the St Louis city election in April. The storm Sunday night caused considerable damage in Baline county with overturned boats, uprooted trees, and blown hay stacks. Nebo district also suffered property damage. Weather began with clouds and ended with rain and flood. a brief sun spell offered limited relief.
Milton Smith and Eva Smith wed at the home of Rev Holton on March 24 in Saline. The couple traveled by Missouri Pacific from Marshall and plan a brief honeymoon in Rafters City before housekeeping near Napton. Numerous locals and friends from Slater and Marshall attended or noted in the wedding notices.
