Obituary notices from Sweet Springs and Marshall mourn the deaths of J Harrell of Sweet Springs aged about 64 with seven survivors. Mrs Thomas McGinnis of St Louis formerly of Marshall. Bert Bellamy of Wyoming. Roman Fessler formerly of Marshall buried in Ridge Park Cemetery after death in Kansas. Funeral services held at Rose Valley Church.
John Shaker, a longtime Laine County resident near Sweet Springs, died January 1 1910 in Waverly Missouri at about 75 to 80. He married Cliona Walker during the Civil War era and had four sons Ollie George Robert and Turner and a daughter Ella Neff, plus six grandchildren and two half-siblings. His funeral, a licensed Baptist preacher, was preached at the Missionary Baptist church by Rev Gordon with Rev Randalls assisting. His second wife Salina Baker died last July.
Among the sick residents reported are Mrs BE who has about recovered from a spell and Mrs Sarah Rilling of West Summit who is recovering. J H Noonan suffers rheumatism at home in the west part of town. J P Brang the male dealer has been ailing. Ernest Hoty, Grand Panes merchant, was Marshall visitor. John Ernatta quite sick. Mr and Mrs W H Pieteher returned from Fort Worth with their daughter Mrs Bruce recovering nicely.
Alfred L Mullard and Callie Smith from Gweet Springs obtained a marriage license along with Geo A Brent and Bedalia Rave Welch, and Mr Leonard Slater tied to Lok friess Brnenbn in Marshall nie jurisdiction.
Geo A Murrell, Saline's wealthiest citizen, pledged 30000 to a Marshall hospital. A meeting of physicians in Hall Gore's office named Hall Harria and Manning to confer with Murrell on use of the funds for building equipment and maintenance. A follow up meeting will occur after Murrell is consulted to take definite action.
This Sounds Good Hunnewell Kan January 1919 letter from editor W T Blakely reports fine weather and local price hints, boasting a 1600 mile auto trip through Kansas and Colorado. He recalls Saline county views, a Ute canyon flood, and a neighbor’s calf incident, closing with New Year wishes.
On December 30, 1909, at Rev. Thomas Powell's Miami residence, Geo Hanna and Carrie Winning were united in marriage. The groom is the son of Judge Robt Hanna and the bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pete ning, was teaching Wheeler School and will continue through spring. The piece wishes them happiness and notes Carrie’s graceful winning ways.
George Brandenburg Fred George and Miss Josie Brandenburg wed on New Year Day and will reside in Slater, as Judge Hiram Ferris officiated, beginning the year with a couple forming a new household.
Lydia May Sharon and Robi F Payne, a colored couple, were married by Rev. Wm. Gogo at the bride’s parents Hardeman home on December 30. The couple entered to a wedding march, brides dress described as white princess, gifts and cake featured, guests noted, Geo Chelen traveling from St. Louis to Pleasant.
State Deputy McMasters of St. Lowe attended a special Knights of the Mac group meeting. The event minutes note his presence and the organization's local activities.
A series of property transfers shows numerous quitclaims and conveyances. Fred Strodtman of WeathGlan gow, Wae Marshall, visited Wednesday and said he would hold a sale about mid February then move to Independence to reside. He cites past year floods as a reason for taking no further chances. The note expresses regret at leaving Joulng bin and family but states he will stay by Minaouri to ensure her political wellbeing.

M. J. Barrow arrived from Perth of town yesterday appearing unwell. Investigation reveals he is suffering from erysipelas in both hands in a serious condition but he remains cheerful and in good spirits.
A letter from J. M. Thornton, a disabled former lieutenant, explains his hand injury from handling pennies and postcards for box services. He will seek medical care at the National Soldiers Home Hospital in Leavenworth, urging better customer care and suggesting gloves or raised objects to assist card deposits. G. A. Barron substitutes for Thornton. Saline patrons to be notified.
In Columbia Missouri on January 4 Judge N D Charmond told the Fulton grand jury that farm land worth many times more than a decade ago remains assessed at the same figures. He said assessors copy previous books, and instructed the grand jury to inspect the assessor’s record in Boone County.
Chas Mathews a well known colored citizen of three miles east of Marshall was declared of unsound mind by a jury in the probate court on Wednesday and ordered sent to the Fulton asylum. Mathews had secured a divorce years ago and lived alone. Neighbors found him in a helpless condition Tuesday in his cabin, having broken furniture and danger of freezing. He has borne a splendid reputation and many friends regret his misfortune. He is in possession of enough property to pay his own expenses and is in the hands of Public Administrator Jake Fisher.
City residents faced harsh streetcar delays and long waits on downtown corners as a severe storm battered the region. Creve Coeur and Kirkwood Ferguson lines were crippled, prompting many to stay in the city overnight or walk home soaked. Frank Schlosser traveled from St. Louis Tuesday to visit his parents.
