Murder of a Negro Woman in Marshall Missouri
Georgie Whitney was slain Monday night about eleven by William Jones at the David Piper home on 3rd Street. In the Piper house an upstairs room held Jefferson Steine and William Jones among others when Whitney went to see Stevie. Jones lifted Whitney, they fell near the bottom, Whitney cried for help as Jones stabbed her, Stevie tried to intervene. Jones turned on him with a knife and Stevie fled. Whitney escaped to a neighbor’s porch but died before entering a house. Deputy Maddox arrested Jones at the porch calaboose. A coroner's inquest found Whitney died from knife wounds inflicted unlawfully by Jones, with jealousy cited as motive. Railroad fare notice to St Louis follows.

Reading Circle closes season at Epworth League meeting
The Epworth League Reading Circle of the M. E church South met at Miss Lizzie Irvine's home on South Jefferson avenue Tuesday evening February 25. Miss Minnie Putsch presided, with Miss Sarah Martin filling the secretary vacancy. Members discussed Self Culture and Epics of Jesus from Christ of Our Poets, praising the course and its benefit. Refreshments and phonograph music followed, with guests Miss Lillard and Mrs Rolland Smith in attendance.
