John L Masters Dies At Saline Age Sixty Eight
John L Masters longtime Saline resident died at his home near Herndon on Tuesday February 13 after a six week illness from a paralytic stroke. He was 68, married with two sons W H and John L both at home. He served in the Civil War with the Home Guards and was a member of Herndon Methodist church. Funeral held Wednesday at Hazel Grove with ministers J R Hedges and C T Wallace officiating. a fuller notice will follow.

William Riley, a popular C and A railway freight conductor, died after a fall from a footboard as an engine passed. Born August 20 1880 in Corder, he leaves a widowed mother and many relatives. John Norris and Miss Lucile Hatfield escaped unharmed when their buggy and horse plunged from a concrete bridge west of Reid Jeters farm into a ten foot hollow after a frightened horse. Archers Carr aided by neighbors freed the horse and retrieved the buggy shafts, leaving the damaged rig until the next day.
