Newstribune notes a string of deaths across Nelson and nearby communities. Former Nelson mayor Campbell is mourned by daughters Mrs. Win. Alexander Mrs. John Baker and Mrs. L. M. Haynie. Other obituaries include Mrs. King of South Elaworth Mrs. Blazer Rustler of Grekaway and several residents of Little Rock Arrow Rock Ridge Park and Hardeman. Funeral details vary with each passing.
Monday afternoon a large crowd gathered on the west side of the square to witness the sale of hardware and furniture assigned by John W. Ballew. The bulk bid by B. B. Naylor was 7125, the lot price under 5000, with Keller Unruh of New York Racketeer bidding 7000 and Louis Hering of Blackburn bidding 800. The entire stock had been inventoried at 110, so Naylor’s purchase is seen as a good bargain. The store fixtures were touted as a model hardware store from the St. Louis world fair and the new stock will expand Naylor’s existing lines.
President Roosevelt signed the McCumber Pension Bill on February 7 1907 making it law. The act provides pensions for Civil War and Mexican War veterans meeting age and service requirements. It sets monthly pensions from 12 to 20 dollars based on age and requires proof to enter the pension rolls. It restricts stacking pensions and bans double compensation for agents. An appropriation funds road repairs and local court staffing and bridge projects as part of the same session actions.
