Anderson Oakley Sherman born Bath County Kentucky 1832 Civil War veteran died January 28 1910 after pneumonia. Wife America Sherman married Paris Illinois 1862. children Mrs Charlie Haggard Kansas City Mrs Chas Van Buskirk of Cretcher and Claud Oakley Sherman. Also notices for Miss Vena Lenton death in Slater February ith age about 80, brother Noah Lenton, Christian Church member. Edward Wilkerson former Slater resident died in Kansas City Kansas age unknown. Janet Bartlett died February 6 at daughter’s home Brunswick Ave. Burial and church services referenced.
Charles Parmer died at his Nelson home on Sunday morning February 6 after days of pneumonia and heart trouble. He was about 50. Survived by his wife and three children. Funeral services were at the residence by Reverend E. T. Rainey, after which he was laid to rest in Nelson cemetery. Isaac Lagore died February 3 at his daughter’s home, age over 100, after four days of heart disease. He was a familiar figure in Marshall with his cane and stooping walk. Remains were taken to Nelson Saturday for burial.
William Wintfrey colon died Saturday at his Pennyville home from consumption aged 73 years 4 months 1 day He was born in North Carolina November 4 1896 came to Missouri in 1854 and lived there until death He married Fannie Hastings in 1857 who preceded him three years His remains were buried at Finis Creek cemetery February 6 He left one child Mrs Perla Brown five grandchildren survived
Mrs Sallie Slaughter, codaughter of Walker Ellis, died at her Slater home on Tuesday February 8 from blood poisoning after childbirth. Funeral held at Union Hill cemetery on Wednesday, by the U.S.B.F. Society she belonged to. She is survived by her husband.
National stock market report from National Stock Yards Illinois dated February 8 notes cattle receipts at 3000 with steady to 50c higher than a week ago. Top steers 7.10 cents per pound average 1369 pounds. top heifers 4.25 per cwt for loads averaging 610 pounds. Hog receipts 6500 with top 8.85, many hogs 8.60 to 8.60. Sheep receipts 3100 with lambs steady to lambs lower. top lambs 5.60, ewes 6.75, yearlings 6.00 to 8.16.
Capt. Alex Denny of Roanoke attended the monthly meeting of the board of directors for the Bank of Marshals on Wednesday.
Henry C. Terrell reports a rousing Sweet Springs meeting praising the proposed road project. He notes a packed City Hall, eager citizens, and the plan’s promise to connect Sweet Springs with Marshall’s rail and electric services, boosting trade and growth. Delegation from Higginsville discussed an electric railway at Elks rooms.

G W Baker of Slater reports the sale of 83 acres six miles south of Slater to E G Baker at 100 dollars per acre. He also reports selling 57 acres south of Slater belonging to the Smith Jobe Co to Wm A Smith at 75 dollars per acre. JR P Gwinn of Slater sold J L Standard's residence in north Slater to Edw W Turner for 2300 dollars and Turner's residence to C H Tucker for 1700 dollars.
J T Herndon traveled to Higginsville on Wednesday for business purposes. The visit involved meetings with local contacts and potential arrangements related to ongoing work in the area.
A crowd gathered at Neely Yowell's pool room in the Southern Hotel on Saturday afternoon. Around 7 p.m. Bob Laughlin and Chas Petry Jr. fought over an overcoat, Buck Martin intervened and seriously cut Laughlin, severing facial artery and injuring the side. Doctors Spotts Powell and Harrison said the wounds were serious but not fatal. Laughlin was on the road to recovery. Martin was jailed awaiting further developments as the pool room license had expired and would not be renewed. Martin faces trial before Judge Rueben Davis Monday morning.
City Council met Monday night February 9 with all members present. City marshal ordered to notify the lot owner of a back of jail cleanup. A low place on Allen Avenue was referred to street and alley committee. Ordinance No. 231 passed approving lighting contract with Marshall Light Co. Prices: 75 dollars for all night lights, 55 for mid night lights, and 18 for incandescent lights.

Shotgun collector Robert Ballowe of New Frankfort, after a dispute with Logan over a wood load last Saturday, borrowed a shotgun from a neighbor, returned, and shot Logan in the leg. Logan offered a dollar but the dispute escalated until Ballowe was paid in full by Mrs. Logan who sought help from a neighbor.
