Latimer Death After Kansas City Assault In Marshall

Charles Latimer of Marshall died Wednesday after being struck and beaten in Kansas City last Thursday night. The 60 year old, born in Kentucky, had moved to Missouri in 1867 and lived most of his life in Saline County. He leaves wife Henrietta Hall and children C. L. Latimer Jr. and Mrs. Ben Hughes. The court ordered his transportation to Nevada State Asylum, with mandating costs from his estate, after a prior insanity verdict. The trial of J W Ming ended with a not guilty verdict on grounds of insanity.

Sent to the asylum hearing record in criminal court

At a Tuesday hearing before Judge John A. Rich the court notes Alf F Rector as prosecutor and the defendant in person with counsel and guardian Robt B Ruff. The jury found the defendant not guilty on the ground of insanity at the time of the crime and that he has not recovered. The court also finds the defendant is not a poor person under applicable statutes.

Livestock sale in Omaha features Saline herd

H H Harris of Marshall will sell cattle at the Omaha sale on February 22 and 23, drawing mostly from the Gallo way herd bred on his Saline farm. Col J W Sparks is among the auctioneers. In St Louis the week saw Saline and Lafayette county steers priced around 5.60 per 100 pounds with weights from 1,337 to 1,373 pounds sold to Swift & Co and others.

Injunction Issued Against Rival Conductor Over Business Interests

John W Robertson J W Barnhill and D H Robertson of Robertson Co secured a temporary injunction on January 25 before Judge Davis restraining W B Hulse from using his skill or influence to harm the Robertson business by reentering the line. Hulse must appear February 5 in circuit court to show cause why the injunction should not be permanent. Duggins Rainey represent the plaintiffs H H Parsons the defendant.
