Sad misfortune befalls Corinne Sloan of Chouteau Springs while visiting at GC F Maxey’s home. On Sunday afternoon her horse bolted, throwing her and breaking her right leg above the knee in a double fracture. Doctors Scrutchfield and Emerson aided her, and she was moved Wednesday to Rev McElvaine’s boarding place.
A small blaze at John Sanders residence in Malta Bend, occupied by Jas Wilson, Saturday night was extinguished by a bucket brigade. The fire started when a sack rested against the stove pipe.
The joint senate and house committee recommends funding for numerous state institutions and services. Allocations include Missouri State University 862,500, Rolla School of Mines 380,000, Cape Girardeau Normal 146,000, St Louis School for Blind 10,700, various asylums and reform schools, tuberculosis and fruit station at Mount Vernon 115,000 and 40,700 respectively, and geological survey 310,000.
The commissioner states John W. Ballew’s indebtedness is 510000, with a stark on dowill inventory around 134000 or 30000. The stock will be sold in bulk at the sale on February 11.
Last month Patterson Farm near Malta Beach sold five acres south of town for 825000. Buyer was Houston Bros who purchased the J J H Patterson farm. Mr Patterson is part of the milling firm Rea & Pautver ron.
A 15 month-old child, cared for by Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Slayner near the C. and A. depot after its mother’s death, has recovered from pneumonia. Several physicians had given up, but Dr. A. C. Putnam treated the child and reports it nearly well.

Also notes a family health item about Mr and Mrs H Gardner's son ill with pneumonia.
John Stanley reported a sale Monday where cattle fell in price while other items sold high. The local sick population is improving. P. B. Dennis purchased Stephen Tader's farm and will move in March, while Tader relocates to Lawn. Vic McAlister leased S. Given and plans to build soon. Miss Ruby King visited her uncle last week.

Malta Bend updates list Rumond and Rovell returning home in Kentucky and Missouri visitors. Several residents travel to Kansas City for visits while others spend weekends in Marshall and Waverly. An infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Binbie was buried here Saturday and community members are noted visiting relatives and friends.
