Population losses mark Saline county rural decline in 1900
Saline county population by townships villages and cities shows a net rural decrease of 1014 over ten years while towns add 955. Cambridge township falls 500, Marshall township rises with the city but declines without it by 289. Only Clay Lib Grand Pass and Blackwater rural townships show gains, signaling a shift to larger farms and fewer renters as Missouri’s counties mostly rise in 1900. A separate report notes the death of Karl Hunter, a fourteen year old shot by playmate Harley Roberts during a Salt Fork hunt. the boy died after severe abdominal injury.
