Death of Harvey Horton in Mt Leonard Runaway Crash
Harvey Horton died at Clarence Hopkins home in Mt Leonard on Friday August 18 1911 aged 57 from injuries after a mule team runaway while returning from Sweet Springs. An automobile driven by James Baker of St Louis crossed the path causing Horton and Ernest Hynson to lose control, Horton fell and was struck by wheels. Coroner resolved witnesses differed on signaling. Horton lingered until 3:95 AM Friday. Burial at Union Cemetery near Blosser. Survived by a brother in Washington and three daughters. He was a Catholic Marshall resident for 30 years and 76 at death. His funeral was conducted by Rev Leatherman and held in Malta Bend. Burial in Kansas City on the 22d.
