Michael Jacoby a long time resident of this city died Friday morning August 18 at age 79 56 years in Saline He was born December 4 1825 in Bitburg Trier Germany came to the United States years ago served in the Civil War married to Misa Elizabeth Sickers on August 17 46 years ago leaving ten children eight living Funeral services were held at the Catholic church Sunday at 2 pm conducted by Father O Neill and burial followed at Ridge Park cemetery

Mrs. Robert Davidson died at her home eight miles southeast of Slater on Wednesday August 16 at 2 a.m. after a decade of rheumatism. She fell from bed two weeks ago, worsened, and her remains were moved to Marshall for a brief service by Rev. Herndon before burial in Ridge Park cemetery.

Col Darwin W Marmaduke a brother of former Missouri governor John Marmaduke dies at 72 in Sweet Springs. He served in the Confederate army, later warden of the penitentiary under his brother, son of John Marmaduke who in 1887 at Jefferson City was a West Point graduate. Walker Marmaduke Duel Near Little Rock
The famous duel occurred at 6 am on September 6 1663 at Godfrey Lefevre farm seven miles below Little Rock on the north side of the Arkansas River. Both faced with loaded revolvers they fired twice with no hits. on the second volley General Walker was mortally wounded and died the next day at Little Rock. Marmaduke later joined Price's 1864 raid and was captured at Turkey Creek before being elected Missouri governor in 1884.

Three Men Die After Crossing Train near Glasgow
Aug 18 in Glasgow Missouri three youths May Burton Edward Schaefer and Leon Markland were struck by a westbound Chicago and Alton passenger train at Steinmetz crossing while driving around a siding freight. Burton died at the station. Schaefer and Markland were badly hurt with Schaefer expected to recover.

Railroad officials tour Slater on inspection trip
General manager Morse of the C and A Railway vice president Ross and other officials inspected Slater Tuesday. They arrived on No 21 and stayed until No 15. Morse announced a 50000 appropriation for Round House and Shop improvements with work to begin this fall. Brother’s birthday dinner followed by barbwire mishap
Chicken and Barbwire Co, B. Ahif, of the Colony, returned Sunday from a visit to his brother John at Sweet Springs somewhat disabled. He ran into a low barbwire while hurrying to catch a train, tearing his trousers and injuring a shin. His brother hosted a big birthday dinner that day, described as a great time, with no family reunion later.

August Nolke and John Nolke of West Glasgow returning from Slater Tuesday of last week had their team frightened by an automobile causing light damage with no serious injuries. Lon Schiesszer in the vicinity of O W Johnston’s was among the wounded Sunday after a bicycle mishap at Pete Solomon's gate left him with a barked arm. Mrs P J Green and children escaped a runaway on East Arrow Tuesday evening with only bruises and a scare.

Hold Up Train Crew Reported Near Blackwater
Parshall Higginbotham of Blackwater received a telegram Monday night from a special freight train en route from Jefferson City to Kansas City reporting that a gang of ten tramps had held up and robbed the crew and were aboard. He deputized three men. they stopped the train at Blackwater at 2 a.m. Monday and captured the ten suspects. They were transported to Boonville Tuesday and jailed.

Falee Hair Saves Life In Missouri Train Collision
In Higginsville Missouri Fal ee hair saved the life of Miss Fiora Brand when a Missouri Pacific engine struck the motor car she rode in. Her 17 year old sister Augusta Brand of Greenfield Missouri was killed. Brand did not see the engine until it was too near to stop. Flora Brand’s false hair became entangled in the engine driver and was pulled from her head. The Brand couple and their little daughter escaped injury.
